Meri Hyöky is originally from Finland, but has lived in Lesotho since 2011, when she came as part of crew for the making of the feature film The Forgotten Kingdom. She fell in love with Lesotho and stayed on as a volunteer at Morija Museum & Archives.

During her time in Lesotho, she has used her skills to help many organisations and movements that are working to effect positive change in the country. These include The Hub, The Nala Project : Social Market, Lesotho National Council of Women, Alliance Française de Maseru, Morija Arts & Cultural Festival, Flava of Africa, and Africa’s Green Generation. To her, photography is a way to meaningfully and creatively support movements and organisations such as these. Devoting her time and skills to causes that she cares about allows her to portray their needs, work and successes to a wide audience, helping them to get more exposure, which can lead to funding, support and solidarity from people around the world.
